“A
budget tells us what we can't afford,
but it doesn't keep us from
buying it. “
William
Feather
The
Progressive mantra was declared on the midnight Christmas Eve ride of
Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She rode through the towns and villages
warning the people that the War on the American Poor, Weak and Sickly
had begun. Who could ever forget her fateful prognostication: “When
I take this bill to the floor, it will win. This will happen.” The people cheered. Finally, those wicked insurance companies would
be vanquished. Our Government will no longer protect us. They will
provide for us all. We will be saved.
As
Paul Revere was not alone in warning American Revolutionaries of the
coming British Invasion on his infamous ride, Pelosi was not alone in
her famed pursuit of socialized medicine. President Barack Obama,
Vice-President Joe Biden, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer and former Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius
sought the Holy Grail denied Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt and
Lyndon Baines Johnson and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. The
absolute control of the American people as property through health
insurance. Let them exchange their liberty for security. Let them
surrender freedom for assurances. Let them submit their sovereignty
for the promises of good health and prosperity. In remembrance of the
great Caucasian used car salesman, “You
have our word on it.”
How
could we not believe the noble proclamations? It was Obama who
promised 36 times that if you want to keep your doctor, no
problemo, you got it. We
are learning day by day that not only are insurance companies backing
out of this travesty of consumer financial justice but, even fewer
doctors and hospitals will be participating in the socialized
medicine experiment.
“The
number
of doctors
participating in health plans on public exchanges dipped 4% to 57% of
physicians in
“health insurance plans offered in the federal or state exchanges
under the ACA,” SERMO, a doctor social media network said. That
compares to 61% who said they were going to participate a year ago
before 2016 open enrollment, according to SERMO’s poll of 1,682
doctor exchange participants.”
However,
hardcore, Marxist believing progressives will tell you that Obama
inherited a terrible situation and only Hillary can fix it. Single
payer will change this. Yep, sure it will.
It
was Obama that promised the Reforms would improve the overall health
conditions of those that lacked access to medical treatment. Yet
Obama Care does not pay physicians to improve the quality of care. Kathryn
Nix, Obamacare
Undermines Physicians, Quality of Care author, wrote,
“This system will pay physicians based on how they stack up against
other physicians — not the absolute quality of care they provide.” Scott
Gottlieb, MD, a Resident Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute,
predicted that cancer patients would suffer under Obama Care. He
surmised, “Obamacare
is going to block the ability of patients to seek out the specialist
doctors who are most likely to prescribe these cutting edge
treatments.” The hardcore,
Marxist believing progressives would label Gottlieb a racist for
saying a black man's health care plan would not work. Truth be told,
time vindicates him. Cindy
Jacobson, a Houston woman being treated for renal cell carcinoma,
found out that a change in health insurance coverage resulted in her
losing access to her medical specialist and the team that had worked
for years to secure her health. Having Obama Care for some is the
equivalent of having ticket number 91,001 at Redskins' Fed-Ex Field. It's good to have the ticket. Unfortunately, there is no admission
because the seat does not existence. Promising improved healthcare
to all without those that provide the service is mere lunacy. However, we
must howl at the moon and accept the noble premise as truth.
There
was the proclamation that over 30 million people would receive
healthcare insurance coverage. We are learning that Obama Care
enrollment totals only 13 million persons. The nonpartisan
Congressional Budget Office
(CBO) says the real number is 8 million. It's like telling the
grandkids that you are traveling with them from Washington, DC to Los
Angeles, CA but, you end up in Evansville, IN. Enjoy the beachfront
in the Hoosier state. However, you better know this ain't
Cali-forn-i-a! The CBO
Director Keith Hall admits, “On
the basis of information about 2015 enrollment and information
available as of the end of December 2015 on 2016 enrollment, CBO and
the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimate that
about 11 million people per month, on average, will receive such
subsidies in calendar year 2016. Additionally, the agencies project
that about 2 million people who are not eligible for subsidies will
purchase coverage through an exchange, bringing the total number of
people enrolled in coverage through exchanges in any given month to
13 million, on average. (The enrollment projections and other factors
underlying the estimates of exchange subsidies provided in this
report for years after 2016 have not been updated since March 2015,
except to incorporate the effects of enacted legislation.)” We are
merely to accept that 22 million people will enroll in the new Open
Season while premiums, deductibles and tax penalties are increasing
and options for doctors, hospitals and insurance providers are
decreasing. Only a government-only mentality would tell you that
this happens everyday in the free market.
The
proclamation I love most is about premiums. Yes, the great Marxist
promise in the sky. No, not the doctor one. No, not the hospital
one. The guarantee that your premium would go down $2,500. Imagine for a family how much that means financially. Imagine $200
a month more for the food richly desired by impoverished families. Imagine two months more of affording housing in the inner city. Imagine eight months worth of car payments to make travel easier
between work, your children's school activities and home. Imagine
paying for a college course or at least the books for the enrolled
classes. Imagine how much this would have impacted the low income
and middle income workers so coveted by the Socialists-Democrat Party
of America. However, due to real market influences, all that is left
to do is to imagine. The money promised is as real as the prosperity
experienced by the Marxists in Venezuela.
Were
you warned Urban America? Well
Yeah! Before Blue
Cross, Aetna, United, Humana fled the Obamacare Exchanges, the
Major insurance Companies appeared before Congress and made it plain
America, “You will not have a decrease in premium!” Gosh darn
those doggone greedy capitalists! They are racists! At any time,
the insurance companies can tell their investors and fund groups that
they have accepted socialism as a way of business and will no longer
be subject to the laws of economics. In MarxEngelsLand, it is a
reasonable supposition. In real life, coveting another man's
property does not make another man richer or healthier except by
theft.
For
all of the lawyers, social workers and fanatical progressives (those
that vote Democrat without discernment or contemplation) that say I
am WRONG,
let's explore the laws of socialized medicine. The following states
lost in the Obama
Care Premium Lottery:
“The
eight states that will face the biggest increases in underlying
premiums are largely southern and western states: Nevada (+179%), New
Mexico (+142%), Arkansas (+138%), North Carolina (+136%), Vermont
(+117%), Georgia (+92%), South Dakota (+77%), and Nebraska (+74%).”
I
believe that this is Obama's and Hillary's Southern and Western
strategies.
Progressives
answer back, of course, that the tax subsidies will handle that. It
may for the premium holder however, who pays the balance due? Yes,
my friends, you do—the American Taxpayer. You are voting as a
Democrat for an automatic tax increase annually. Fellow American,
Democrats vote annually to plunder your savings and your wallet. Smile, I am taking your wealth!
Yeah
Ken, premiums increased but, at least, people get to use their health
care and they have insurance to cover their costs. REALLY? Let's
take a look at how that works. Under the Obama Care Marketplace,
there are four plans: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Premiums
are highest under the Platinum Plan and are lowest under the Bronze. What suppresses the premium under the Bronze Plan, the one most low-
and middle-income indidivuals and families subscribe? It is the
deductible--the
amount for which the insured is liable on each loss, injury, etc.,
before an insurance company will make payment. Wanna see Dr. Do Me Right? Under the Platinum Plan, all you need to
do is pay $233 and your family pays $468. Not bad for a monthly
premium of $ $543.68 if you are 40 years old. By the way, that's an
increase of 16% over last year. Yes, Ms. Democrat America, you only
have to pay for a physical and a few blood tests and your insurance
kicks in. However, howabout Ms. Democrat America working at the
Starbucks that you visit daily? She does not make as much as you
pay for your latte. She can only afford the Bronze Plan. At age 40,
she struggles to pay the monthly premium of $289.88, an increase of
11% over last year. She is as committed to the Democrat Party as
you however, she does not have the luxury of healthcare that you
promised her and enjoy yourself. Her individual deductible is $5,731
and the family deductible is $11, 601. After she pays for 3 major
outpatient surgeries, just maybe her insurance policy kicks in. Fair
for you, it is unjust for her. Unless, you live in MarxEngelsLand.
Okay
Ken, I'll give you that, although you are really an “Uncle Tom”
with a very popular urban
conservative talk show. You don't understand, if I say that you
are right, I have to admit that my health care policies oppress the
poor, the young and the weak. I am a Democrat. We don't do that
Republicans do.
Well,
Plantation Pete, let us explore one more item: Taxes!
Wait
a minute Ken, poor people and the elderly do not pay taxes! I
gotcha!
Well,
Plantation Pete, they can and some do. Let me quote from the
Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) first:
“Under
the Affordable Care Act, the federal government, state governments,
insurers, employers and individuals are given shared responsibility
to reform and improve the availability, quality and affordability of
health insurance coverage in the United States. Starting in 2014,
the individual shared responsibility provision calls for each
individual to have qualifying health care coverage (known as minimum
essential coverage) for each month, qualify for an exemption, or make
a payment when filing his or her federal income tax return.” So if
you can not prove that you have insurance then, you pay on Tax Day! There is no discrimnation. Minimum standards are applied to all. Unemployed for more than 60 days without insurance? BAM! You get
hit.
According
to the IRS, shared responsibility payments will jump to $695 per
adult and $347.50 per child, with the family maximum not to exceed
$2,085 or 2.5 percent income above the filing threshold. That’s up
from $325 per adult and $162.50 per child, with a maximum of $975 per
family for the 2015 tax year. An estimated 5 million to 7 million
people are either not eligible for the income-based assistance, or
they buy individual policies outside of the health law’s markets,
where the subsidies are not available.
A
$2,085 hit to Ms Democrat America working at the Starbucks is a
devastating financial outcome. All done for her betterment.
Urban
America, consider this before you choose tyranny over liberty. This
is the same President that denied that there would be an increase at
all. This is the same President that blamed the premium increase hike
on the Media for reporting it. This is the same President that said
tax credits cover everyone and the subsidies do not. This is the same
President that said that there would be a $2500 decrease in premiums. This is the same President that said that you could keep your
original doctor. This is the same President that said that you could
keep your health plan. This is the same President that said he did
not know that Hillary had a private server or email and yet, sent
emails under a pseudonym to her. This is the same President that
blames Republicans for a health care policy created, legislated and
passed by Democrats and signed by him. You do not attribute the
cause to the President's policies but immediately shift blame to a
candidate that holds no position in office. This is not reason, it
is feelings. Reason saves a fortune and feelings may cost you more.
Anyone
on reading this editorial been unchanged by Obama Care? Anyone
paying more for healthcare than ever before? Anyone covered under
Trump Care? Anyone on this page know of a family or friend that has
lost catastrophic coverage or access to chemotherapy because of the
Obama Care enrollment crisis? Anyone on this page call me a liar
when I said that Obama Care premiums were rising yet, today say that
I am right. Anyone blaming the GOP for the increases to insurance
premiums, tax penalties and insurance deductibles?
Not
the first time I've been right in the wrong place. Not the first
time a Democrat is embarrassed that socialized medicine is repudiated
by the free market and is too stubborn to liberate poor, sick and
elderly people from its constraints. By the way, will Mr. President
be covered by Obama Care when he leaves office? Not the first time
I've been right in the wrong place. Certainly, not the first time a
Democrat has surrendered to tyranny and poverty and that has nothing
to do with Trump! When times were good, Obama said, “Call
It ObamaCare All that you want!” Now that times are more
surly, he isn't too sure that he wants this as a part of his legacy. Whether you are the first black President of the United States or the
first female President of the United States, socialized medicine does
more harm than good. Socialized medicine does not work.
